WHERE. DID. THE. YEAR. GO. Wasn't yesterday like, Easter?
With the new year rapidly approaching; in true blogger fashion, here's yet another "End of the Year" blog.
Before I go on, if you haven't heard Pentatonix "PTXmas", give your ears a Christmas treat. This album is the musical equivalent of a peppermint hot chocolate while sitting in front of the fire... it just feels right.
If 2013 had theme, it would be: LEARNING.
So much learning happened for me, however this is a blog, not a novel... so we'll keep it short.
Here's what 2013 taught me:
Not everyone is bad, but not everyone is good
Maya Angelou once said, "When people show you who they are... Believe them". I didn't fully understand this thought until this year. My optimism tends to blinds me towards people flaws, which leaves me surprised when they "show who they are". There are some nasty, vindictive, and down right mean people in this world, and you can't change them. But remember, this big world is full of greats; don't let one bad apple spoil the batch.
Not partaking in something (or someone) you want.
Sometimes we want something so bad, without thinking of the implications of said "thing". Sure we can have it, but is it the best for us? My advice: Always, always, always trust your gut. You don't have to follow through with your initial feelings, but acknowledging them is a must.
Don't be a slave to money.
Sometimes, we have to put our grown up pants on and, grow up. Be smart... pay your bills, don't spend what you don't have, but still spoil yourself. YOU are in control, not Ben Franklin.
Do no harm; but take no shhh..
Be kind, love people, forgive again, and again, and again. Never stop.
Stand up for yourself, demand respect, protect what's important. Never stop.
Your testimony is what God's done in your life, not your life story.
A friend told me this a few days before I had to share my testimony this summer, needless to say I was speechless, and that never happens. It's sad to say I never understood this before. Fortunately thanks to my wise friend, I stand corrected.
2013 was adventurous, emotional, experimental, and liberating. I ardently took everything I could from it, and am proud of the outcome.
Whatever 2013 was for you, it's almost over, and your new beginning is coming.
2014, we're ready.
